Users can pre-order Googlebook from Monday, 21 September 2026. Yes, it’s Google confirmed the date. Googlebook is Google’s new flagship laptop category, built on an Android codebase and positioned above the Chromebook line, and the first models ship this autumn from Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo.

Googlebook pre-orders open on 21 September 2026, six days after Google’s media preview in New York City on 15 September. Google has not published Googlebook prices, individual model names, or a shipping date, and the official site closes with the line “Unbox it this fall,” which separates the pre-order date from the delivery date. Every Googlebook runs Gemini Intelligence and carries four named features: Magic Pointer, Create My Widget, Cast My Apps, and Quick Access.

What Happens on 21 September

The Googlebook site currently collects email signups only. The pre-order path goes live on 21 September 2026. Google’s 15 September event in New York is a closed media preview with no public component and no hardware announcement, which makes 21 September the first date buyers can act on.

Google announced the date through a teaser carrying the line “Something new is on the horizon” over an animating light bar — the Glowbar element that also appears on the Pixel 11 Pro line and the Google Home Speaker. Googlebook laptops carry the same Glowbar as a signature design feature.

The Four Features on Every Googlebook

Google lists four Googlebook features on the official site. Two run on the laptop and two depend on a connected Android phone.

  • Magic Pointer — select anything on screen to ask, compare or create with Gemini. Requires an internet connection.
  • Create My Widget — build a custom desktop widget by describing it. Google’s own example generates a live trip tracker from a single prompt.
  • Cast My Apps — open Android phone apps on the laptop without installing them.
  • Quick Access — reach files stored on an Android phone as though they sit on the laptop.

Two requirements appear in the footnotes on Google’s site and determine who can use these features. Cast My Apps and Quick Access require a phone running Android 17 or above. Magic Pointer and Create My Widget carry an 18+ age requirement, matching the restriction Google applies across its consumer Gemini products.

Google’s official product photography shows two keyboard details. A fingerprint reader is built into one key, and the keyboard carries a dedicated key marked with the Google “G” logo. Google has not said what the G key does.

Google Has Not Named the Operating System

Googlebook runs an Android-based operating system named “AluminiumOS“. Google describes Googlebook only as a category combining ChromeOS and Android, and describes Chromebooks separately as ChromeOS machines built for simplicity and speed.

“Aluminium OS” is a codename drawn from Chromium code commits and certification filings and has never been an official Google name. Google’s launch of a consumer pre-order page without naming the software indicates that the branding is being held back for the 15 September keynote.

The First Googlebook Hardware

The first three Google Books are documented through public certification filings as of 14 September 2026. Around eight devices are expected across the five launch manufacturers. Google has confirmed Intel, Qualcomm, and MediaTek as launch silicon partners, so the first wave spans both Arm and x86.

The Lenovo model weighs 1.29kg with a 70Wh battery rated at up to 11 hours, and carries two Thunderbolt 4 ports, one USB-A port, HDMI 2.0, and a 3.5mm jack. The 32GB configuration is the number that separates the category from what came before: no ChromeOS device has ever shipped with that much memory.

What Googlebook Will Cost

Google has not published any Googlebook prices yet, and there is no official pre-order price. Google positions Googlebook as a premium tier above Chromebook and Chromebook Plus rather than a same-price replacement, and a starting point near US$999 has been the consistent expectation since the category was announced on 12 May 2026.

The Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14 launched at US$750 and has since been listed at US$1,000. A US$999 Googlebook floor price positions the category against entry-level MacBooks and Copilot+ PCs rather than budget Chromebooks. Converted directly, US$999 is roughly ₹88,000 before Indian GST and import duty, which in practice puts such devices above ₹1,00,000 at Indian retail.

What to Check Before Pre-Ordering

  • The software support window. Chromebooks carry a 10-year update commitment. Google has not stated Google Books, and at a premium price, it is the number that most affects long-term value.
  • Your phone’s Android version. Cast My Apps and Quick Access require Android 17 or above. Without it, two of the four headline features do not work.
  • Linux and ChromeOS web app support. Google has confirmed no path for either on Googlebook, which matters for education and business buyers running Chromebooks today.
  • Independent benchmarks. Media received benchmarking access on 15 September, so performance numbers should be published before pre-orders open. Full retail reviews will not exist on 21 September.
  • Chromebook upgrades. No existing Chromebook has been confirmed as eligible to move to Googlebook’s operating system. Current Chromebooks continue to receive ChromeOS updates during their committed support windows.
